The Journey Guide: Owner Randy Johnson is a native Tarheel from Sanford. He is a former Eagle Scout, and served four years in the US Navy. He has over 33 years’ experience boating on Jordan Lake and other NC fresh water lakes. Randy started Jordan Lake Journeys in 2016 because of his love of boating, the water and things aquatic. Your comfort and safety is my top priority and I promise you will have fun, see some wildlife and learn something new!
Boat Basics: The Journey boat is 2011 South Bay 22-foot pontoon boat, with 25” diameter tubes, lots of comfortable seating for up to 11 guests and double bimini tops for shade. The boat is powered by a Suzuki Four Stroke 115 HP Outboard which is very quiet and has ultra low emissions. JLJ has all required USCG safety equipment and a variety of PFD sizes available for adults or children. State law requires kids under 13 to wear PFD’s while on the boat.

Departures: Journeys leave from Poe’s Ridge Boat Ramp Moncure NC daily: 9am, 12pm and 3pm. Sunset tours depart 6 pm from April-Sept.and earlier as the days get shorter. Boarding can begin 10-15 minutes prior to departure. Journey season is open Feb. 1, until Dec. 31, 2020.
Food: JLJ offers guests bottled water, soda, and variety of chips during the tour. You may also bring your own picnic basket. Some guests like to do that, we've even had folks bring fried chicken and potato salad and fix plates on the boat!
Tips: Tips are never expected but very much appreciated if you feel you received exceptional service during your journey..
Parking at Poe’s Ridge: Parking is operated by Army Corp of Engineers who charge $5.00 cash for a day use pass. As you near the parking lot, you'll see a gravel drive with a kiosk on the right. Stop here and buy a day use pass by taking one of the colored envelopes. Tear off the mirror tag portion and put cash in the envelope, seal it and put it in the metal lockbox. Display the mirror tag on your rear view mirror or dash where it is visible. Carpooling is recommended but if you have multiple cars, two cars can park in the same long parking space, only one pass required. The parking charge is per space, not per car.
Restrooms: A restroom is available on the right side as you enter the parking lot. It is recommended to visit facilities prior to boarding. The restroom is 30 feet in the woods and a little hard to see but it is kept cleaned and stocked on a regular basis.
Cancellation: If you need to cancel a booked journey, you must do it within 3 days of the journey date via phone call or e mail or forfeit the $50 deposit. If you fail to cancel or don’t show up for the tour, no refund is given and you must book another journey at a later date with a new deposit.
Smoking/Pets/Swimming: Our liability insurance does not allow smoking while onboard or swimming from the boat. No pets are allowed in ensure the boat is in a clean condition for the next journey guests.
Weather Related Cancellations: We continuously monitor the weather and will strive to call you if we have to cancel a journey due to storms or lake conditions that would make it unsafe to be on the water (such as low or high water levels).
